NFL Hall of Famer Randy Moss is taking an extended leave from ESPN’s “NFL Countdown” to address a personal health challenge, the network confirmed.

“Pro Football Hall of Famer Randy Moss will step away from NFL Countdown for an extended time to focus on a personal health challenge,” ESPN stated. “He briefly addressed the matter at the start of the show on Dec. 1. For nearly a decade, Randy has been an invaluable member of the team, consistently elevating Countdown with his insight and passion. He has ESPN’s full support, and we look forward to welcoming him back when he is ready.”

Randy Moss Opens Up to Fans

The exact nature of Moss’s health issue has not been disclosed. However, during the Dec. 1 episode of NFL Countdown, Moss briefly addressed his situation while wearing sunglasses, saying:

“I just wanted to let the viewers know that me and my wife, me and my family, we are battling something internally. I have some great doctors around me. I couldn’t miss the show. I wanted to be here with you guys. I feel great.

“But if y’all see me with these Michigan turnover glasses that I have on, it’s not being disrespectful because I’m on television, man. I’m battling something. I need all the prayer warriors.”

A Legendary Career and Contributions

Moss, 47, is widely regarded as one of the greatest wide receivers in NFL history. Over his 14-season career, he accumulated 15,292 receiving yards, ranking fourth all-time, and was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2018.

Since joining ESPN, Moss has been a key voice on both Sunday and Monday Night Countdown. However, he scaled back his workload to focus solely on Sundays starting last season.

No Immediate Replacement

ESPN has decided not to fill Moss’s role temporarily during his absence. Fans and colleagues alike are rallying behind him, offering their prayers and support during this time.

As Moss takes the time to prioritize his health, viewers and the sports community look forward to his return when he is ready.
