This game, Grand Theft Auto III, started it all. There was no game like this before; it wasn’t open at all and free like this. You get to Liberty City, a city filled with crime and corruption. There, people are just trying to survive. You are Claude, a mute character, who starts, after being betrayed, to forge himself a path in the underbelly of the criminals.
This map felt huge when I first played GTA 3. It looked enormous compared with the games I had played. I still remember driving up and down the streets for hours, listening to radio stations, causing random chaos instead of missions. It was liberating, something new at the time that remains fun today.
The story is a gritty mix of seriousness and a lot of funny elements throughout. Missions go from doing small jobs, such as stealing cars, to conducting bigger jobs with mafia bosses. The city itself is alive, with pedestrians, honking cars, and changing weather.
Why GTA III Became a Classic
GTA III was known to give freedom to players. You could follow the story or simply roam Liberty City at your own pace. The dark humor in the dialogues, the wonderful soundtrack, and the tough missions made it last in memory.
While the newer GTA titles appear larger and sharper than GTA III, each of them has its own kind of charm. For me, it’s different because it was the first game that truly made me feel like I was living in a different world.

My Thoughts
GTA III is not just another game; it is history. It changed open world game designing. Although it may seem a bit old at this time, if you are a game history fan or just love the GTA series, then this one is worth trying out.
