Metavoidal Overview
So the deal goes like this: In Metavoidal, you play as a drummer who completely messed up auditioning for a metal band. I know how that feels because I once ruined a small performance back in school, and it hung over my head for days. But in this game, it’s worse. That band you failed to join isn’t the normal type. They’re corrupt; their music reformed reality, and the world is now crawling with their crazy, brainwashed fans. You only got two drumsticks, some stubbornness, and one clear goal: to destroy the band and lift this curse.
The gameplay is indeed intense. You grab cursed records while dodging and surviving stages full of horrors. At the end of each level, you can use those records to boost your playlist. Every track gives your drumming different powers like fire blasts, lightning strikes, holy light, or even a messy oil chaos. The more songs you collect, the stronger your set-list gets, and you turn into a living weapon.
And then add creepy graveyards and churches under the dark earth, where you’ll smash in with nothing but the drumsticks in your hand and the building playlist. This isn’t a rhythm-on-timing kind of game where a button press equals a beat. It’s far more action-packed and skill-on-action and turns the band itself against the music that they play. Each level ends in a boss fight with a band member. Each has a different fighting style; today, fans make a single wild guitar string, and tomorrow it’s a raging keyboard.
There’s also BingBong, this weird little voidling who helps but never for free. He takes your guitar picks and exposure (yep, this is the currency here) and gives you buffs, upgrades, or just enough juice to keep you alive for another fight. Then, back in the Sanctuary, you can use experience points gained from fallen drummers to unlock new perks. This means that any next run has the chance of becoming better than the previous one.
Now, the music in Metavoidal is just insane. There are 16 original songs composed for the game, 72 variations on them, and over 60 drum tracks across four elemental albums, Fire, Lightning, Oil, and Holy. Each choice made alters how the soundtrack plays so that your battles always sound brutal and fresh. Honestly, this makes it feel like the game is jamming right along with you.
In short, it is about being a drummer and then proving oneself against that corrupted band. There will be significant hordes of fans, some twisted ones from the band, and an extremely destructive playlist coming your way. It doesn’t only sink; it hits just as well as your drumsticks.
