Kill The Music: Overview

Like any platform where the fight is to a rhythm, Kill The Music makes its magic. Your character’s swinging is automatic, but it lands stronger and quicker when you strike to the beat. I thought it was going to be nearly impossible to keep time, but when you get in the mood, it just feels natural, almost as if you are drumming to a number.

It has a combo counter that will keep getting bigger as the fight goes on. You can use the combo for Hold Attacks, which always sync with the rhythm. I really liked this part because you can stop worrying about keeping perfect timing and instead focus on blasting the enemies while being propelled forward by the music.

Enemies drop spirit energy when slain. If you fill your meter up to 100% you will unlock a Solo Attack, turning your weapon into an overcharged instrument that cleaves everything. This is basically a reward for maintaining the beat, and quite frankly, the hit feels really gratifying.

Between stages, you get to pick upgrades. This is a really fresh aspect in gameplay. Some runs I ended up stacking upgrades that made me nearly unstoppable, while other times I tried out new combos that worked in very unexpected ways. Each run is a slightly different experience, and that’s what kept bringing me back.

Kill The Music’s story angle is far from cheery. Roxie, our protagonist, lost her music bar in a fire. Her friends have been killed, and with that, their spirits are now under Death’s control. Every time you kill a boss, you unlock portions of her memories, slowly fleshing out what happened in truth. This is a cocktail of action and rhythm gameplay with a touch of a sorrowful but interesting story.

The pathos did separate it from the pack in my book. I am a fan of rhythm games, but most don’t bother with deep storytelling. Here, you get fast-paced action mixed in with thought-provoking character narratives. You may also be interested in: Bean Beasts Free Download for Windows PC
