When I first encountered Horse Club Adventures 2: Hazelwood Stories, I was reminded of a leisurely weekend spent in the countryside. The game begins in autumn, around Lakeside; soon, you join Hannah, Lisa, Sarah, and Sofia in their adventures. Hazelwood is where the real fun is, a little town full of stories, friends, and challenges awaiting discovery.
One of the nice things was a photo contest in which you and your horse searched for the best shots in different areas. It feels a tad challenging in the beginning, but you meet helpful friends along the way who make things easier. The moments I cherished the most were when I was just riding along backdrops of Hazelwood, stumbling upon little side stories and activities like helping out at the stables, birdwatching, or treasure-hunting.
The mix of the gameplay encompasses various horse-riding experiences. You can compete in dressage, fly through obstacle races, herd animals, or play mini-games such as Pop & Gallop. I personally loved the obstacle races most since they reminded me of the little riding games I played as a kid.
The realm of Hazelwood houses so much charm. You can explore beaches, autumn forests, evening swamps, and even snowy mountains. Each area feels distinct, a sense of serenity and refreshfulness filling the mind while riding through them.
Horse grooming is a huge aspect of the gameplay. You can feed it, clean it, take care of the hooves, or just show it some love. Playing with your horse bonds the two of you, and I liked how that made the game feel more personal.
You also get to customize both your character and your horse. There are over a hundred unlockable items, from clothing to customization, for you to create your unique look. Apart from that, the game is fully dubbed in English, while the score by Winifred Phillips is a perfect fit.
