So Chip ‘n Clawz vs. The Brainioids is one of those games that really do feel mad, but in a good, adrenaline rush sort of way. It has been conceived by Julian Gollop, the same fellow who created X-COM, so you know there will be a fair bit of strategy involved in it. The story is pure madness. These Brainioid alien entities appear, steal Earth’s crystal known as Brainium, and hide it in floating Grav Spheres. There, a brave few stand to fight-T Chip, A young inventor, and Clawz, an altered version of a ‚robotic cat. That is who you will be playing, and really, that seems a truckload of fun.
The game is base building and real-time strategy in one moment, and charging into battle to shoot aliens in the other. I just love games that allow a mix of building and blasting, and this one has done it all very smoothly.
There is a complete story campaign with side missions, and it feels like you are juggling in each battle. The boss battles are just bananas: you are managing your base while trying to avoid getting smashed by giant Brainoid bosses.
The other interesting thing is the presence of co-op. You can play alone, but it’s always a lot more entertaining to team up with a friend. I think I had a blast with my cousin on couch co-op because we kept yelling at each other what to do while being attacked all over the place. There is something called PvP as well, if you want to pit each other against, 1v1 or split-screen 2v2. And it can be across multiple systems with no worries about what console the other is playing on.
Bright and bubbly comic book styling in the world design: ridiculous in a colorful way and quite epic in a sense. There are hidden comics that expand the lore of the invasion, but also that unlock weapon blueprints and minion upgrades, and even abilities for your hero. And yes, villains are as weird as they sound; I mean, some literally have their brains in jars.
For me, the kind of game you hop into after school and play for hours, where you do need to think smart and plan your moves, but still laugh a lot while doing it. Just action, strategizing, and fighting weird aliens all packed together. You may also be interested in: Into the Dead – Our Darkest Days Free Download for Windows PC
