Davy Jones is one of those pirate stories that I heard many times while growing up, but the game gives it an entirely different twist. The PC game DAVY x JONES free download features the famous pirate who was betrayed, robbed, and then executed; instead of his journey ending, he wakes up in The Locker, a weird kind of world acting as the afterlife for seafarers.
The cool part is that you actually play as two parts of him. You control Jones’ strong headless body, while his talking skull gives you advice along the way. At first, it seemed a bit weird, but truly, the gameplay stands out in contrast to most other pirate adventure games I have tried.
I found the pairing of dark humor and action really intriguing. The skull kept tossing remarks, while the body just smashed through enemies. It felt like playing with two different characters, though they are technically the same person.
Exploring The Locker
The main world of the game is called The Locker, or, in more correct terms, the pirate underworld. The entire place was made up of nine floating islands set above infinite clouds. During the exploration, I faced the unfortunate souls, dangerous monsters, and creatures of the sea, such as the Kraken.
Every island felt different. The creepiness of the ghostly pirates in some areas was contrasted by large open spaces where I faced colossal foes. For any fan of action-adventure games with an unusual setting, this part very much hooks you.
