Then I picked up this whole issue about Lenny, and to be honest, it struck me as I had a minor accident once at school, and the teachers took ages to inform my parents. It is frightening for the child who must handle everything alone before the adults ever respond.

Emily Diaz is talking again about what happened to her son, Lenny. He is a middle-school kid in Montgomery County, and on October 22nd, 2025, he got a grave head injury during gym. It was said that a metal something hit him in the head, which was thrown by another student, in Odessa Shannon Middle School in Silver Spring, Maryland.

The principal, Natasha Booms, told everyone in an email that it was some metal object, and staff were giving the family support. Emily later shared that it was quite a lot worse than what people, she put it, first heard: Lenny had an open skull fracture with bone pieces even into his brain. That made me feel really weird inside for imagining how difficult the pain must be.

He was taken straight away to Intensive Care, having been stabilized before intubation, for it was very precarious. Emily says that her son has always been intelligent, a loving boy, and loves adventure. Now she has concerns about his ability to talk, to move, to remember.

So many people have helped her through a GoFundMe. Quite a good thirty thousand dollars have been raised. On the 24th of November, she gave another update saying, she just can no longer remain silent.

The first people to be called were the Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service. The police did not arrive until about 5 P.M., which was hours after the incident. She said the principal told her something different from what she later read in the official police report. And she went on to say that this incident would not be buried, and she would not allow it to slip away.

It shocked Emily that the student, whom she said was a girl, threw the metal object and was back in school. Emily said her son was happy to be going to school that morning, and she had trusted the school with both her sons. Her words were that the student’s actions had almost killed her child, and the school had done nothing.

She did not receive an immediate call from the school. Instead, Lenny was the one who called her first, his injury being serious, and eleven minutes after his call, the principal finally called her. She learned that the Maryland Center for School Safety received the incident report on October 29, seven days post-injury. She stated the law says the report ought to be submitted within twenty-four hours and wants to know why a whole week was taken.

She’s now seeking other MCPS parents to step forward. She wants to find mothers whose children have also suffered bullying or violence. She wants them to come out with their tales for the sake of any change ever.

Aside from that, Emily wants Principal Booms and anyone else associated with this case fired. She said MCPS ought to look better because kids go to school to learn and not to get hurt or bullied. She said that she is sad, mad, and confused, and all she wants is justice for her son.

Emily remains vociferous about the need for transparent reporting, safety precautions, and accountability of people in charge in Montgomery County Public Schools, while Lenny is still recovering. She promises she won’t stop until something substantial is put in place.
