Ever since the anniversary of a young woman’s death, strange occurrences have been agitating at the White Oak Inn. Her spirit now roams, and a staff member discovers menacing messages. What are the concealed secrets that hide? Time is running short, and you, as Alex Hill, will have to uncover the answers before the clock strikes too late. Environment: The environment was roomy enough to maintain my interest, not feeling cramped like in some ND games. I liked the way the spaces transitioned together in one continuous world (with a later-added bike to reduce travel time). That bike was a gem—I’d get a small thrill catching sight of it parked. The attention given to the environment’s details and asset selection really shone through.
Puzzles and Gameplay
Puzzles: I’m not a fan of puzzles, so I appreciated that this game did not overwhelm me with them. The ones they provided were manageable but still stretched my brain in a satisfying manner. Some really surprised me! Puzzle enthusiasts receive additional optional challenges as well. The environments don’t quite hit the lush charm of classic Nancy Drew games—assets and lighting felt a bit off, typical for an indie—but it left some spots less pleasant to linger in (though the curio shop exterior and Alex’s room entrance were exceptions).
