Backyard Football 1999 is one of those childhood games that are fun even today. The updated version runs smoothly now on modern Windows PC, so you won’t have to go messing around with old settings. I remember I used to play this on my cousin’s computer in the early 2000s. The arguments would start over who gets Pablo Sanchez on their team because everyone knew he was the best player in the backyard.
It is always a great experience to have the likes of Jerry Rice, Barry Sanders, Dan Marino, and John Elway to choose from alongside the classic Backyard Sports kids, Pete Wheeler, Pablo, and Dmitri. The unique selling point is the extremely easy pick-and-play aspect. My little brother, who never used to like football games, got hooked on it after he scored his first touchdown.
Game Modes
Single Game
This is a match mode that gives you the possibility of playing for a very short time. Select from 5 different backyard fields, each with a different weather condition. You can also draw and create your own team logo and jump right into a pick-up game.
Season Mode
The game gets really serious now. A total of 7 players can be drafted from a pool of 30 Backyard Sports characters and legendary pros, which you will be pitting against in a 14-game season against 15 other teams in the Backyard Football League. If you survive the elimination rounds, you will find yourself playing in the playoffs, competing for the Super Colossal Cereals Bowl. I will always remember a weekend I spent playing through a complete season. It was incredible to take a championship with a team revolving around Barry Sanders and Pete Wheeler.
