Overview of Bean Beasts
Bean Beasts surprised me. It looks simple at first, but after getting into it, you see that it has a depth all its own. You control tiny little beasts, which rise in power after each battle. Each beast evolves through three stages of evolution, which in turn bring more moves, more abilities, and more fighting styles. Each beast has a unique skill and a side attack; thus, evolving them is actually a question of your own individual play style.
The thing I loved most about the game was the strategic part. You could place walls to change the direction of the enemies, while laying traps in clever places to change the dynamics of the entire contest. There are 12 different kinds of traps, all of which can be upgraded, and there are extra abilities for summoning allies to help you right in the heat of battle. Honestly, the more I went into the game, the more cloyed I felt, for not one fight seemed like another.
The game is fat in content as well. 40 levels are spread across 5 different regions, there are 8 boss encounters that challenge your skills, and endless maps just to see how long you can survive. New things are unlocked after each level-beasts, traps, upgrades-which gives you a reason to push on.
The enemies are also quite varied from each other. There are 50+ enemy types, and each has its own fighting style. Some hit very hard, some use elements, and some apply status effects. To top that, the game uses physics and gravity. You can shove enemies off ledges, mess with their movement, and perform some less dignified, very hilarious execution.
Then there is an in-game soundtrack, an art style of its own, and sound effects that keep fights real. If you want to learn slowly, go on beginner mode; if you want to challenge yourself, go with harder settings. When I got started, I chose beginner, but later, having understood the mechanics, I switched over, and it felt like an entirely different game.

My Experience with Bean Beasts
When I first tried Bean Beasts, I didn’t think I’d spend much time on it, but it kept pulling me back. The evolving beasts make you want to test all combinations. I remember spending a whole evening just trying to see which traps work best against bosses. Whenever I feel like not starting new levels, I go back to the endless mode, and it’s always fun to push myself one wave further than before.
