The entire incident happened around Lexington. Every member of the Belfry team was kicked out, and the makeshift team waited on a dirt field with freezing weather during halftime. The coldness of the dirt ground was taken because the Lexington Christian Academy side remained within the walls. It was even stranger to read. Put me in that situation, and I’d be twiddling with my fingers for warmth.

When these were taking place in the state semifinal match, the Belfry boys were left all outside for the whole halftime break. They had no warm area or a place to rest, not even a toilet. Meanwhile, the LCA coaches and their side kept warm inside. Anyone can see that this gives one team an advantage. In games, even a little thing like this can change the whole second half. I remember once during my own school match, we got stuck waiting outside in cold weather, and my hands got so stiff I could not even pass properly.
Billie Roddy Rogers put on Facebook her views about the entire issue. She discussed her affinity with the Belfry sports family and how shocked she was by what happened. She categorically called it cheating. According to her, this wasn’t some petty kind of mistake but was made deliberately. She further indicated that there was really no good reason for LCA to have behaved in the manner they did, and questioned this whole idea of their so-called tradition.
She asked that the Kentucky High School Athletic Association take this matter into consideration and do something about it. In her post, she said she was hoping that KHSAA would act on this matter. Otherwise, things will not look good for the community in Belfry. She added that this wasn’t just a normal heated game issue. These were grown adults making young players stand out in the cold, even though they were leading on LCA’s home field.
People reacted really quickly to her post. Many shared their own reactions and agreed with her frustration. One comment stated that it was actually incredible that such a thing could happen to kids. They asked how a kid could hold back a little act of basic kindness just because ashamed of losing.

Another person said that I don’t think that this is what a Christian school should represent. Someone else talked about the venue. If the place isn’t properly prepared for such an important game, it shouldn’t hold semi-finals at all.
Many have also raised questions about a school calling itself a Christian institution being able to treat another group like that. What should have been a simple, fair match turned into something that looked very unfair. Reality issues arose with regard to sportsmanship, safety for players, and fair play.
