Cronos: The New Dawn is an odd mix of survival horror that puts its own stamp on third-person action with a deep storyline. I recently found it distinguishably different from most survival horror games I have played in one regard or another; the whole concept of moving into a broken future and then back to some past offers much more excitement, as you will never know what to expect.
The game is set in a ravaged world where your battle against terrifying monsters for survival begins. You play the character of a Traveler, who works for a secret organization known only as the Collective. Your task is to scour wastelands and find time rifts to bring you back to 1980s Poland. I love history mixed with horror, and that right there got me.
Story Setting
The events of the story are based on something called The Change: a global calamity that transformed humanity entirely. In the future, the world is all wasteland, populated by abominations. This kind of game, I thought, captures the feeling of isolation in a world fraught with danger.
The enemies are these vile, mutated things, a kind of mockery of human beings. Combat here is not just about reflexes; you have to time things right. I realized that after wasting all my ammo in the first few fights, and ended up with none when the more vicious enemies came.
Equally interesting is the tactical exploitation of time anomalies to create new paths or to stay alive. On top of that, you will have to scour for supplies, as it is always in short supply. This kind of pressure makes every little decision count.
Gameplay Experience
Cronos The New Dawn is not just about running and shooting; you must also prepare before every battle. Many times, I had to decide whether to conserve bullets or craft something useful from the materials I found. The game rewards players who think carefully instead of rushing in.
This is what gives it an edge: a blend of survivalist, strategic thinking, and just pure horror. Burning the monsters, so they do not join together, and extracting the souls from enemies feels sickening but entirely appropriate for the world of this game.
