Discounty is a personal computer game set amid a small-town grocery store where one decision impacts not only your shop but also the townspeople living in Blomkest. I recently tried it out, and it felt like a meld of shop management and a little life simulation, which honestly kept me glued on longer than expected.

Upon setup, your aunt delivers to you the keys of her supermarket, Discounty. The town seems a little worn out, but that supermarket is all you have got. After that, everything from setting the layout to stocking shelves to making trade deals with suppliers is all your responsibility. To me, the fun part was manipulating the layout of the shop and watching how customers behaved, sometimes with just minor changes. For example, putting frozen fries in the front actually increased my sales much more than I anticipated.

One part that caught me off guard is that it is not just about working in a store. After your business hours, you can walk around Blomkest and meet the people of the town. Some will help you; others may not like your good fortune. I found myself speaking with a fisherman who ended up giving me better prices for trade once I gained his trust. That right there made the game feel alive and personal.

So the more time you spend in Blomkest, the more secrets haunting this town you will discover. Not all of them want your store to succeed, and this just heightens the challenge. To win over the locals, you need to give them fair prices or stock items of their liking. Honestly, I had this moment wherein one of the locals just stopped coming to my store because I charged him too much. It was frustrating, but somehow realistic.

You can change the shelf arrangement, merchandise, and even décor. I purposely made the aisles very wide for easy navigation, and that kept people in the store much longer.
