I’ve been playing Kinki Spiritual Affairs Bureau, and wow, it’s definitely not your usual Japanese horror game where you just hide from ghosts and hope for the best. Here, you actually get to fight back! It’s set in Japan (duh), and exorcisms are, like, a legit government job. The main character is Mizuki Shiraishi, an exorcist who works for the Kinki Spiritual Affairs Bureau (fancy title, right?).
The game kicks off with Shiraishi heading to this creepy village called Saiga in Nara. The weird part? The whole village has been wiped from the internet. Like, no trace. And when she gets there, surprise surprise, everyone’s gone, and it’s packed with evil spirits. Oh, and there’s no electricity, no phone service, no internet. Talk about being cut off from the world. Someone’s definitely messing with the village, and Shiraishi’s gotta figure it out.
She’s not completely alone, though. Her boss, Kohinata, and her junior coworker, Maruoka, are helping her out over the radio. The game’s plot is really what sold it for me. At first, it felt like a weird, funny twist on typical Japanese horror, like a goofy Call of Duty parody. But as you play, the story evolves into this crazy satire, keeping the humor but diving deeper into the mystery. The characters? They don’t get a ton of screen time, but they’re actually pretty memorable. Each one has their own motivations that make sense.
What kept me going was definitely the story. Even though there are some parts of the game that drag, the plot is strong enough to keep you hooked until the end. Plus, there aren’t any major plot holes that’ll leave you scratching your head, which is a big win.
Game Features:
- The gameplay’s all about solving mysteries. You gotta investigate, find clues, and put together pieces to solve puzzles. It really makes you think, which I liked.
- The game’s environment is super creepy, from haunted temples to spooky abandoned buildings. Every area has its own vibe and it all fits with the story.
- The atmosphere really adds to the tension. Each place feels unique and keeps you on edge.
