The Dragon Ball world seems to be back again. I saw that post from Bandai Namco, which suggested a brand new game coming in January. There was not much information provided, just enough to allow people to hope. I have always been waiting for some big one since I first watched Budokai Tenkaichi.
Everyone is already going mad trying to figure this out. A full sequel? New story? Or something else entirely? It reminds me of staying up late and playing with friends on Xenoverse 2, and joking that it could you were decades overdue.
The tease sounds really big, though. I mean, they didn’t even term it as a mobile title and/or small updates, but rather as a highlight of “project”. To me, this would mean that they’re planning something cool, maybe open world, maybe next-gen visuals. I could fathom flying in this vast Dragon Ball landscape like Goku, fighting like in the show.
One conjecture is that this could be a Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3 sequel. You know, a universe-like feeling: custom characters, time travel, big battles. I played the Xeno game: Wii edition back in 2017, and I always felt that it could have been bigger and wilder. Console-wise nowadays, less is unacceptable.
Another thought could be a spiritual successor to Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot. That game got me to really live in the world of Dragon Ball and train, explore, and do more than just combo fights. If the next one picks up from where Kakarot left off or goes into the Super era and beyond, I’m in.
Sure, mobile games in the Dragon Ball world are doing fine-like Dragon Ball Legends and Dragon Ball Z: Dokkan Battle. This teaser just doesn’t sound like “another mobile game” to me. It sounds good for everyone: console, maybe PC, maybe new story, maybe cross-platform.
It helps that the Dragon Ball brand is freshened right now. With the upcoming cartoon Dragon Ball Daima and the successful movies, it all feels just right. I’m thinking they want the game announcement to ride that wave, and I have been waiting for the brand to hit big again.
Fans are looking under every single gray text post, date hints, images, and maybe even characters behind the pixel blur. I’m that guy watching a teaser countdown, refreshing pages just in case.
One thing’s for sure: whatever they are doing, it will be high-level. Surely, it is action-packed and story-rich, maybe bringing battles + narrative in ways Dragon Ball never did. I’m ready for that next change.
This January will be a great month for Dragon Ball fans. The storm of excitement is here. It doesn’t matter when you started watching Goku or if you’re just jumping into the series right now; this announcement feels like it’s going to remind us why we love the series.
