Sad news indeed about Coach Marc McCutcheon. He passed away on December 1, 2025, at his hospice care, with family by his side. Fayetteville was home to him, and a lot knew him as a teacher, coach, and was really the teacher who pushed students to do better.
People would call him nicknames like Maniac Marc or Nuclear Dump Truck because he was a giant personality and always brought great energy to everything he did.
Coach Marc McCutcheon Was A Retired Teacher And Coach
Coach Marc graduated from Fayetteville High School in 1973 and pursued further studies at the University of Central Arkansas. He received his higher learning from the University of Arkansas with a graduate degree. He was really proud of the origin and talked about that a lot.
He taught football and basketball, track, and soccer in Green Forest. His enthusiasm was what assisted the school in creating the first varsity soccer teams to reach the State Championship. I remember my own school coach who used to push us the same way, and reading about Marc reminded me of those days when we used to run around the field till our legs burned.

He really believed that weight lifting could do wonders for any athlete to get them stronger, and so he created gyms like Mountain Iron and Fayetteville Barbell Club as training facilities for people.
Distance studies include history and civics, and students always say he made those subjects feel real. He explained how the country was built and the importance of those stories. Some teachers read through the whole book; he did not go that route.
Aside from the classroom and coaching, he was also a fun person. Lead singer of the Muscle Tones, he worked as a doorman and bouncer in the 1980s and 1990s. A very full life had a lot of people enjoying being in his company.
Numerous alumni shared their thoughts on hearing the news of his death. One said that he had never seen him without a smile, and another stated that he is the teacher who will stay in your memory forever. Things like that make you realize what a large impact he had.

He may not be here physically, but the work he did will remain through the kids he coached and taught in the community. Many local folks will remember him with affection.
Neil McCutcheon, son of Marc, survives him together with Amanda, Richard Clutch McCutcheon’s brother, and Bekah, his sister, Melissa Missy McCutcheon Milton and Michael, and his grandchildren, Addie McCutcheon and Max Martin. Gracie Martin, his daughter, and Buddy and John, his brothers, had passed before him.
Prayers and love for the whole McCutcheon family. Rest in peace, Coach Marc. You may also be interested in: San Marcos Senior and Water Polo Player Tayden Tomblin Passes Away After Skateboarding Accident
