The 40-year-old Mexican Olympic medalist announced with emotion the news of her pregnancy
Mexican Olympic weightlifter and medalist, Luz Mercedes Acosta, shared with emotion the news of her pregnancy through social networks and explained that in spite of waiting for the arrival of her baby she will not stop practicing her discipline and shared the medical recommendations that she must follow to combine passion for your sport with your pregnancy without risking your health or that of your baby.
“At almost 40 years of age and after being an athlete and Olympic weightlifting medalist for more than 2 decades, I now begin the real stage of being a mom.
It is something that fills my husband Eric and me with great joy and happiness. The question is, is it possible that I can combine my sport with pregnancy at my age?
In the first place, the Doctor asked me a series of questions about my age, my sport, and my lifestyle. To my surprise, he told me exactly what I wanted to hear from an expert: to continue practicing what I do; that it would be counterproductive to cut what I have been practicing for more than 22 years and to follow my routine as it has been until now. He stressed to me that pregnancy is a physical state and not a disease.
Adding that weightlifting, in my case in particular, is a sport more like pilates or yoga. It is not a risk discipline, because I do not suffer falls and I do not have accidents, which allows me to continue lifting with great care and adapting movements. If I did, for example, mountain biking, or some new exercise, that would be a high risk for me and my baby.
