Right from the time I first started my playthrough of Mafia II Classic, I never knew how soon I would become embroiled in a world of Empire Bay. The plot follows the life of Vito Scaletta, a young man trying to navigate his new world after returning from war. Beginning with minor Mafia jobs with his childhood friend Joe, the work soon progressed into the big league. The game chronicles the rise of the street guy into a member of some inner family trust.
One thing I much appreciated is the ability of the game designers to create a reality where whatever is happening truly exists. Driving through Empire Bay does not give you that sense of just another city. The 1940s slowly begin to drift into the early 1950s. Everything is alive: old cars, songs playing on the radio, fashion, and even the design of the shops. I could remember pausing just to take in the soundtrack because the music fit the era so perfectly.
Gameplay Experience
Gunfights and action: Combat is fun and makes you work for it. Plenty of times, you find yourself in one large shootout or another on exciting car chases through narrow streets. Hand-to-hand combat is brutal and satisfying.
Storytelling: If you have ever seen any Mafia films, you will note that the game borrowed from that kind of vibe. Characters are believable, and the alternate cutscenes featured make you feel like you are part of a movie.
Empire Bay setting: Where the game truly shines. I remember driving through snowy missions, only to later witness the city come alive in an arena reflecting the 1950s with hot rod cars and neon lights.
Graphics engine: The game uses Illusion Engine; even though it’s an old engine today, back then it used to be a huge deal exploring an open world with so much detail inside and outside the buildings.
Music: For me, the other most important thing is the soundtrack. Old tracks from that time give you the feeling of being in the Golden Era of America.

Why I Recommend Mafia II Classic
Mafia II Classic seemed much more like a series unfolding before my eyes, with me having control over the main character. A combination of shooting activities, car drives, and narrative sequences transformed it from being just another action game. The missions were a mix, and the world felt rich in details. I played it years ago, and even today, I get back to the game just for the sake of roaming around Empire Bay. If you like story-driven games or generally enjoy Mafia-themed worlds, this one is a must-try. You may also be interested in: Hell is Us Free Download for Windows PC (v1.3.36.43556)
