It’s interestingly silent about the prospects of Tomb Raider, as the Embracer group has provided some information. One of the slides during the company’s financial presentation provided a list of future titles. Hidden within the list was the simple note saying that the next big Tomb Raider entrance does not yet have a release date.
While going through gaming reports a few days ago, I stumbled on this piece and immediately took in every detail. I have been a fan of the series since childhood, so any update, no matter how small, is an important one for me.
Tomb Raider: “To Be Dated”

The mention comes from Embracer’s quarterly report, which included Q1 from April to June of 2025. The new Tomb Raider is thus far slotted under “to be dated,” running with titles like Tides of Tomorrow, Rise of Hydra, and the Gothic 1 remake.
It is a questionable placement. A number of the games on the slide, say Metal Eden, and some, the Tides of Tomorrow, have set release windows clear for next year. Others, for early 2026, are still, of course, Marvel 19. Yet Tomb Raider hangs down so much below those that are projected possibly years away, including the ever-anticipated Darksiders 4.
A mixture of excitement and caution came over me looking at it. Excited because it confirms the game is real and still in development, but cautious because it lets one know that it is probably not coming anytime soon.
What the Placement Really Means
The very fact that it is not grouped with those titles for 2026 indicates that Tomb Raider is still in early production. If it were far along in development, it would have been shown alongside (or in place of) those titles. Its placement clearly signals that Lara Croft’s next adventure is still a pretty far way off.
Companies use these slides to reassure investors that, despite being years away, their big brands are alive. It helps keep interest alive without actually committing to scheduled timelines.
Other Surprising Details in the Report
One such glaring omission was Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin. That game had already been announced and received an enormous amount of fanfare, yet the slide showed nothing at all of it. This raises the probability that either the release has now been delayed or the schedule is still tentative.
Another strange detail was with SpongeBob SquarePants. Although it has a confirmed date of November 2025, it was shown without a release date. Maybe it was a mistake, or perhaps Embracer wants to use this opportunity to be flexible about the project. Whichever way, it shows these slides are not exactly perfect roadmaps.
When Could the Next Tomb Raider Release?
Going by placement, even the most optimistic view is that the next Tomb Raider could be late 2026. To be honest, 2027 or later feels much more possible. Putting it alongside long-term projects suggests Crystal Dynamics is still building the foundations for the game.
As a longtime player, I would rather they take their time and make it great. Rushing it out just to hit a date would be a mistake.
What Fans Should Expect
At this stage, the only certain message is that the next Tomb Raider exists and is in production. The absence of a definitive time cut suggests it is still under early development. Hence, this vagueness is what warranted its ambiguous listing by Embracer.
For now, it is good to lower expectations. There will not be any big reveal or gameplay trailer just around the corner. Instead, the team is most probably working quietly behind the scenes, laying the foundation for Lara’s next adventure.
Through my mind, the announcement of Shadow of the Tomb Raider flashed very near its actual release. We might be looking at a similar situation this time, with only hearing more when the game is ready.
Until then, Tomb Raider fans like myself will just have to wait patiently, knowing somewhere in the Crystal Dynamics studio, Lara Croft’s next expedition is slowly coming to life.
