When I first picked up Overlooting, I actually braced myself for it to be horrible, but within minutes, it had me hooked. It puts together a very unusual group of characters: Maximilian, a noble hero carrying the weight of his family name; Liz, a thief wanted across many lands; and The Shadow, the mysterious figure whom everyone once believed was behind the corruption spreading across the world.
The story slowly sucks you in because you’re not just fighting random enemies; you’re up against something bigger and darker. Each has its own way of handling things, and that mix made me feel part of their journey.
Looting and Equipment
The main thing in the game is robbing gear. Every item counts. When I was playing, it struck me that collecting from the same set yielded me bonuses that were unique to me, thereby making me think a little bit more about what I would equip. It’s no longer a matter of the strongest weapon; it has to do with employing a set that unlocks new power.
Skills and Builds
Another thing I loved about it is the skill tree that differs each time you play, so there’s always something new. Some of them give basic support, others add an increment to damage, and a few can uplift a single build beyond the normal threshold. Personally, I like experimenting with different builds as it gives freshness each time you run.
Boss Battles
At the end of each region, there is a boss encounter. These bosses are quite tough, though. The first time I attempted to deal with one of them, I failed because I had generally underestimated its strength. They come with a little bit of special powers, testing your choices throughout the game. After which, I began to make plans even more carefully before entering new areas.
