Pete’s been in the game for a long time. He was born on September 15, 1951, in San Francisco, and his football career spans like, 40+ years. He started as a grad assistant (basically a coaching newbie) and worked his way up through tons of jobs like defensive coordinator and head coach.
Most people probably know him as the guy who turned the University of Southern California (USC) Trojans into a total powerhouse. He snagged two national championships there, and the team was crushing it for years under him.
In 2010, he jumped back into the NFL and became the Seahawks’ head coach. Oh, and in 2014, he led them to their first-ever Super Bowl win! So yeah, Pete’s kind of a big deal in football.
Pete’s New Gig
Fast forward to 2023, Pete decided to step down as the Seahawks’ head coach after 14 epic years. But he’s not leaving the team completely—he’s now an advisor, helping behind the scenes. The Seahawks thought it was time to shake things up and bring in fresh vibes, so they hired Mike Macdonald (former Ravens defensive coordinator) as the new head coach in 2024.
But Pete’s not just chillin’. He’s heading back to USC in 2025 to teach a course! Imagine learning from the Pete Carroll. The university is hyped to have him back since he’s, like, a living legend there.
Is Pete Really Done Coaching?
Well, kinda. He’s said he’s not looking for another head coach job right now, but he hasn’t totally ruled it out either. So who knows? Maybe we’ll see him on the sidelines again someday. For now, though, he’s focused on helping the Seahawks and inspiring students at USC.
