Project X: Light Years takes one back to space thirty years after the first alien invasion. The enemies have come back, and they look tougher, faster, and more dangerous than ever. The game is a side-scrolling space shooter reliving the old Amiga classic with sharper new graphics, smoother controls, and updated effects that make.
You start at the pilot seat of the high-tech spacecraft, zipping through asteroid belts, alien planets, and immense space stations. Enemies attack in waves, sometimes small and sneaky, other times in the form of huge bosses that test timing and reflexes. What I liked while playing was how the game still retains the old-school feel, but the upgrades make it much more fun and less clunky, quite unlike older shooters. The soundtrack is also another important feature, giving both a nostalgic feel and energy while blasting enemies.
Experience a Game Audience
By participation in missions, one can gain a variety of potential boosts to speed, shields, or weapons. Over thirty different possible upgrades have brought their share of blessings and doom. Quite truthfully, this randomness made my runs very interesting because I honestly had no clue what came next. I would go from one round, feeling overpowered, to barely surviving the next.
But that is where the real challenge begins. Greatly armored alien ships come with unique attack styles. Kicking them down involves patience, strategy, and maximizing the use of every upgrade you collected. Slaying a tough opponent gives one immense satisfaction, especially after more than a few unsuccessful trials.
Another fun part is the two-player co-op mode. I tried it with a friend, and it made the game even better because we could cover each other while laughing at our mistakes. On top of that, online leaderboards let you see how your score compares with players worldwide.
