Last night I tried SHUTEN ORDER on my PC, and I swear I felt like I was stepping directly into a dim-lit mystery movie. While dark, the story is heavy, and it pulls you in. A couple more loose ends, and humanity will wipe out. Amid this chaos, an enigmatic group known as the Shuten Order arises. They are something close to a religious cult bent on making humanity vanish. With more and more people joining, they even get to build their own little nation called Shuten.
Everything goes terribly wrong during their first big festival. The leader of the Shuten Order is assassinated in public. A twist takes place; you awaken as the protagonist with complete memory loss. Two beings, calling themselves angels, relate the terrible truth. You, in fact, are the murdered leader resurrected by divine powers, albeit through a broken revival. You have no memory and only have four days left to live.
This is where the game gets even better. To stay alive, you have to pass what they call God’s trial, and that means finding your killer from among the Shuten Order ministers. There are five of them, and not enough time to examine each one. You have to choose whom to trust, whom to follow, and whom to suspect. Each of the choices alters the story’s course, giving the game a serious detective-like feel. I felt the pressure when the time-ticking game timer reminded me that time was running out.
What I liked most is that the game keeps you thinking. Every talk with a suspect feels like it could be your last chance to reach the truth. Sometimes I was absolutely sure that one minister was the killer, and then a small clue would throw me into doubt again. And that is what makes SHUTEN ORDER so exciting.

If you enjoy games with a detective flair and a dash of survival, give SHUTEN ORDER a try. It really makes you feel the tension of only four days left.
