I just got my hands on the Shattered Space DLC for Starfield, and man, it’s pretty sick! If you’re into space adventures, this one’s another solid expansion to dig into. Basically, it’s an add-on to Bethesda’s massive space RPG, and this time you’re sent on a wild trip to this hidden homeworld of House Va’Ruun, where all kinds of weird stuff is happening.
The story kicks off when you get a distress signal from a creepy starstation, which leads you to a place called Va’Ruun’kai. There’s this group of people who worship something called “The Great Serpent,” and now you’re thrown right in the middle of their drama. It’s not just about running around shooting stuff (although there’s plenty of that). The whole vibe of the game gets even darker and more mysterious. You explore a new planet, pick up some sweet new weapons and gear, and basically dive deeper into the whole Starfield universe.
My Playthrough Vibes So, I’ve been at it for like 8 hours, and I finished the main story already. But there’s still so much to explore, like a whole new system with more quests and places to check out. I gotta say, the graphics and lighting in this expansion are awesome. The new planet and space station look way better than anything in the base game. It’s definitely more polished, though if you didn’t like Starfield before, this DLC probably won’t change your mind. For me, though, it’s more of the good stuff I love.
What’s cool is there are new factions that pop up, each with their own shady politics and plans. You can either side with them or work against them, which actually affects the whole galaxy. Oh, and they’ve added some new hazards in space like black holes and radiation zones, which makes exploring a bit more intense. One thing though, I was kinda bummed they didn’t add new ship parts, but the new weapons and gear make up for it.
Features
- New Factions: In Shattered Space, you meet all these new groups with their own goals and agendas. You decide who to team up with or go against, and that changes how the story plays out.
- Space Hazards: Asteroid belts, black holes, and radiation zones are new things you gotta watch out for while exploring. Adds some real challenge and keeps things interesting.
- Ship Customization: You get more options to upgrade your ship, like better engines and weapons. You can tweak your ship’s design to fit your style, which is super fun.

How long does it take to finish Shattered Space?
The main story took me about 8 hours, but if you want to explore everything and do all the quests, you could easily spend more time on it.
Does this DLC add anything new to ships?
Sadly, no new ship parts were added. But there are some cool new weapons and gear to make up for it.
Do you need to play the base game to understand this DLC?
Yeah, you gotta play Starfield first, or you’ll be super lost. It’s part of the same universe, so knowing the base game helps a lot.
Is Shattered Space good if I didn’t like Starfield?
If you didn’t enjoy the base game, this probably won’t change your mind. It’s more of the same, just with new places to explore and a darker storyline.
