The Crimson Diamond, an overview
A minute after the diamond was discovered in Crimson, Ontario, Nancy Maple-an, an ordinary, laid-back museum worker from Toronto, who was more interested in geology than filing papers, found herself acting like a detective.
The game properly sucks you in when the characters first arrive at Crimson Lodge; you listen to conversations, notice little details that look suspicious, and gradually build a picture of what is going on around you with the eccentric characters present. It is not about racing and solving head-scratching puzzles. It is about taking one step back while exploring, listening rather to the story on your own time.
The atmosphere was really something I cherished. It’s sort of old Agatha Christie-like, juxtaposed with retro-style graphics and a classic text parser system with typed commands or questions directed to the characters. If you have played any of the Laura Bow mysteries, the vibe will instantly ring familiar. It brings that nostalgia, but feels new enough if you enjoy working slowly to put a mystery together.
My experience has been finding it rather relaxing and rewarding to just observe the unfolding story, eavesdrop on character conversations, and piece together clues. It is not the type of game to rush about with; it is rather about thinking, watching, and feeling very smart when it all finally clicks into place. If you like cozy mysteries or retro-style adventure games, this is one to try. You may also be interested in: ACUVAC – A Suck and Blow Adventure Free Download for Windows PC
