The Royal Writ is not merely a simple card game; it is an arena in which each card represents a soldier in your army. You place your devoted followers upon the battleground and watch them move toward the enemy while attacking. But one important point: should one of your cards reach its enemy base before conquest, it becomes an instant casualty, removed from your deck for the rest of your run.
At times, cards may become casualties before a player due to bad luck, or it may well be part of an overall strategy; for sacrifice is one key element that accompanies strategy, often appended with tiny stories that follow a player to a much later date. There have been battles where sacrifice was not hard to fathom, considering that my best card fell out early, but in the end, that very sacrifice led me to victory. Lead Your Army of Unique Creatures
Your army consists of fearless yet unusual animals with special powers. You may find an overworked old flamingo barely able to stand, an off-target chicken archer, or a cunning lizard that eats and survives only by losing its tail. The red ants are the bravest; the lambs are just there for sacrifice: every card has its job to do and has a reason to be in your deck.
While they fight for your kingdom, each one of their victories and defeats becomes a part of your story. You may even make some strange allies along your travels — like a dentist mantis who’s just a bit too eager; a goat that plans every single move as if a true general; or a grumpy boar with a shop. Just don’t ask where they got their qualifications.
Two Campaigns to Conquer
The First Campaign drops you into the midst of the rebellion: maintain the King’s rule while traversing the treacherous terrain of an abyssal pit and venomous swamp. Amidst the struggle for control of the uprising, you might start noticing that things are a bit more complicated in the kingdom than you first thought.
The Second Campaign is where the game truly comes alive with the introduction of gunpowder. On the battlefield now, new experimental weapons force a rethink in your movements. Not only must you avoid traps, but now you have to dodge bullets while keeping your troops alive.
